Why Routine Dental Care Is Safe and Important

On August 18, 2020 Written and Reviewed by JDC Content Committee

Routine Dental Care Is SafeFrom quarantine to face masks, COVID-19 has changed our world. As businesses reopen and we adapt to our new normal, it’s time to resume health appointments, like trips to the dentist. But wait, is it safe to go to the dentist? Or should you maybe just postpone a little longer? You may have even seen articles in the news recently that speak to this topic. So, why is routine dental care safe and important?

At Jefferson Dental & Orthodontics, we want you to know that we have developed extra measures to keep our patients and our teams safe. Read on to learn just how safe a trip to the dentist is and why it’s important for your health.

Is It Safe to Visit the Dentist?

Yes! It’s perfectly safe to visit the dentist for everything from routine follow-ups to emergency services. In fact, there have been no cases of COVID-19 linked to dental appointments.

Dental offices have always embraced exceptional safety measures, but the CDC has set out new guidelines for dental offices due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which we’re following each and every day. Rest assured your routine dental care is safe and it is important for your overall health.

Why Routine Dental Care Matters

It’s safer to see your dentist than it is to go to the emergency room, but with everything else going on right now, it can seem easier to put off your routine appointments. Unfortunately, delaying routine dental visits or seeing your dentist for a nagging problem could actually cause greater problems.

Routine dental visits allow your dentist to identify potential issues and take preventative measures. If you skip your appointment, something small could easily develop into a dental emergency that hurts more, costs more, and takes longer to repair.

Regular check-ups also include professional teeth cleanings that remove problematic plaque and bacteria. A dental cleaning improves the overall health of your mouth, which helps you fight off diseases and boosts your immune system. This is why routine dental care is safe and an important part of maintaining your overall health.

Follow-ups for long-term treatments, like orthodontics, are also essential to stay on track with your plan. You don’t want to delay these appointments, or you could end up prolonging the overall treatment process.

If you’re due for a check-up or follow-up, book an appointment with the Jefferson Dental & Orthodontics office nearest you.
